Wetlands Board Meeting Procedures
- Call meeting to order.
- Roll Call - quorum confirmed.
- Chair explains the purpose of the meeting and reads an opening statement.
The policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the City of Suffolk is clearly stated in the Virginia Wetlands Act (Sec. 28.2-1301) as follows: "Shall preserve and prevent the despoliation and destruction of wetlands within its jurisdiction while accommodating necessary economic development in a manner consistent with wetlands preservation."
- Approval of the Minutes (comments, questions, or corrections).
- Chair (or staff) states the case number and presents a brief description of the proposed project. VIMS Report is noted.
- Chair opens the public hearing.
- Applicant and others given an opportunity to speak.
- Chair closes the public hearing.
- Chair asks for comments/discussion from Board members.
- Chair entertains a motion.
- Board can approve, approve with modifications, deny or table the application.
- Chair notes the time limit on the permit with the possibility of any extension if the work is not finished.
- In the case of a denial, the Chair informs the applicant of the right
to appeal to the VMRC within ten (10) days of the Board's decision.
Steps 5 through 13 are repeated for each case scheduled for Public Hearing.
