The Department of Human Resources provides support to the City Manager and all City Departments in planning future needs, data collection, recruitment, selection, retention, assessing general and specialized training needs, and advising on Federal and State Regulations relevant to Personnel issues. The Human Resources Department oversees an ongoing program related to employee health and welfare, employee recognition, employee satisfaction and employee relations with internal and external customers. The Human Resources Department also ensures management of cultural diversity and equal employment opportunities.

The mission of the City of Suffolk's Human Resources Department is to strive to create a workforce that reflects the face of the community it serves, to honor and respect the difference and the abilities of all employees and citizens, and to create a work environment where all employees have the opportunity to achieve their ultimate potential.
