Youth Advisory Council

youth advisory councilThe Suffolk Youth Advisory Council meets monthly to discuss issues that directly affect the youth of Suffolk and offers recommendations to City leaders to help implement change. The SYAC plans activities and events for youth to participate in to raise awareness of issues faced by youth in Suffolk. Please take the time to complete the survey to let us know what you think.

The Suffolk Community Service Initiative

This program is designed to show youth the benefits of community service and to build a connection among young people and their community. Youth ages 11 - 17 will work with mentors to identify and complete community service projects.

F.L.O.T. - Future Leaders Of Tomorrow

Do you have what it takes to be a leader? Are you ready to have a voice in the community? If you are 11 - 14 years old, we want you! FLOT offers you the chance to learn more skills and opportunities to grow. Career training, etiquette classes and college tours are just a few things we offer. The fall session will begin soon. Workshops are held weekly. Limited transportation available.

An Empowered Approach to Prevent Youth Violence:

Youth Enrichment Program Mini - Grants

Applications for funding after-school programs can be found in the Administrative Office of the Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department located at 110 West Finney Ave., Suffolk, Virginia. Projects requesting support should comply with the overall goals and objectives adopted by City Council and focus on improving quality of life. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2008.
