Welcome to the City of Suffolk's
Department of Public Works

Eric Nielsen, Director of Public WorksThe Administration Division provides oversight for the other division's activities. The activities of the Public Works Department include responsibility for site and development plan review relative to Traffic Engineering, Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control. Additionally, the Traffic / Maintenance Division is responsible for maintenance and repairs of traffic equipment and storm water infrastructure. The Engineering Division also provides construction inspection services to commercial and residential projects, and project management services for Capital Improvements Projects. Public Works Refuse Division oversees trash collection services in the City, and the Maintenance Division oversees public building repair, upkeep and also provides grounds maintenance for City facilities. Lastly, the Transit Division is responsible for maintaining and operating the municipal airport and through a partnership with Hampton Roads Transit, operates the local public transportation bus routes.
